Ryan Alter is a lifelong resident of the Austin area and has represented District 5 on the Austin City Council since 2023. During his time in office, he has been a leading advocate for making Austin more affordable for families, students, retirees, and workers. A graduate of both the University of Texas at Austin and Harvard Law School, Ryan previously served as a Capitol staff member for Senators Kirk Watson, Sylvia Garcia, and Juan Hinojosa. His pension oversight experience extends to his role as a trustee for the Austin Police Retirement System, a peer system of Austin Firefighters Retirement Fund.
