Over the past three years, Austin Firefighters Retirement Fund has been working toward the implementation of its new Pension Administration System (PAS) software. Pension Gold Version IV will replace Pension Gold Version I, which has been in use since approximately 1998. The modernization effort is a long-overdue upgrade aimed at improving both functionality and security.
The Fund has now entered the final stage of development. During this phase, the benefits team will process all member services using both the legacy and new systems to ensure full accuracy and functionality before the new PAS goes live on January 1, 2026. Parallel processing is a complex and time-intensive task—because of this, the benefits team will be prioritizing only the most urgent member service requests during the parallel processing and initial go-live period from November 2025 through January 2026. Non-essential requests may be delayed during this time. Regarding benefit estimate requests, staff will only produce estimates for members who are considering retirement within six months of their request. Staff will be happy to address any long-term retirement planning beginning in February 2026.
